LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN SHORT RANGE WIRELESS & COGNITIVE RADIO

Enabling Mobility, Control & Connectivity through Short Range Wireless Technologies
Presentations by ZigBee Alliance and WiMedia Alliance

Thanks to wireless, notebook computers, mobile phones, game consoles, set top boxes, digital cameras, utility meters, medical devices, remote sensors, etc. have become much more versatile and user friendly. A number of new wireless platform and standards designed for low-power, short-range, wireless personal area networks (WPANs) provides these products with mobility along with other functionalities. Leading technologies such as UWB, ZigBee, WiMedia, Wi-Fi are liberating users from wires, enabling wireless connection of multiple devices for transmission of video, audio and other high-bandwidth data as well as command, sensing and control. Due to its prodigious telecom market and position in the global electronics supply chain, China is now an important groundbreaker for these wireless technologies. What's been the progress for adoption of these technologies in China and around the world? How does these short range technologies complement with WiFi, WiMAX and 3G cellular wide area communications? What are the distinguishing characteristic and features of the different SRW radio technologies? This session is intended for China's fledging OEM/ODM design engineering community and developers of wireless products. It is of benefit to short range wireless networks operators; systems integrators, components suppliers, and vendors of short-range wireless technologies. Other topics for discussion include current issues in SRW; state of SRW market; SRW enduser requirements; SRW standardization effort; system operations; advances in microchips; 60GHz millimeter wave communications, and more.

Software Defined Radio for Multi-mode, Multi-band, Multi-functional Wireless Internet
Presentation by SDR Forum

With the techniques to make digital radio programmable already in place, Software-defined radio (SDR) is now starting to take a foothold globally as well as in China. SDR is particularly useful in market situations where different frequencies and standards are in use. For original equipment manufacturers and mobile operators, the need to support various radio standards and frequencies is inefficient and costly. With SDR, a number of wireless standards and frequencies can be accommodated by way of a programmable platform thereby saving both time and money. This session takes a in-depth look at the research and development of SDR in the commercial world. It examines the steps to adopting SDR, the value proposition and technical issues of working with a reconfigurable technology, future radio design, support of multi-modal radio and architectures including alternatives involving reprogrammable/reconfigurable hardware, such as field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), plus much more. Join experts and pioneers in SDR in exploring the promise of SDR.
